The bathroom queue dilemma

Men have had it better than women for centuries. Even when it comes down to basics such as using the loo. But times are changing.

Have you ever seen a queue for the toilet that's so long you'd be better off taking the train home? Or peed your pants in line for a toilet that is letting 10 men in every minute? Well, you're not alone.

Reports show that women spend 34 times longer in toilet queues than men.

And that's why bathroom designers have decided to revolutionise this basic public necessity.

They're calling it The Peequal, a bathroom design that can fit between 6-8 toilets, meaning more women than ever can pee at the same time in half the space.

To many, this concept is probably hilarious. While others might be wondering why this obvious idea hasn't come about yet. But I'm just thankful someone's actually decided to change something that's been an issue for over half the world's population for centuries.

It's refreshing to see such an innovative, smart design being considered for the benefit of someone other than straight white men. And while the Peequal is another way for this generation to speed up even more, and feed its evergrowing need for instant services, it's a concept that can actually prove beneficial for reasons other than impatience.

For example, Covid-19. No one wants to wait in a line crammed in with dozens of other women in a dirty pub on a Friday night anymore, especially not in a mask. Or imagine a single mother with multiple male children on a school shop — the Peequal could mean she no longer has to drag her squirming children into a half-hour-long queue or leave them in the trusting hands of a random stranger.

The Peequal definitely isn't the top story on everyone's agendas this week. But it's definitely the best news I've read about in weeks. For someone who likes to drink WAY too much water, and struggles with her bladder in public, it's something I'm considering popping champagne over for all women on the globe.
